Akarana is an Exotic Shorthair cattery. Our cats are raised and kept as part of our family. We restrict ourselves to very few selective breedings, resulting in usually two to three litters per year.
1995 we started showing Persians in FiFe. Since 2007, our breeding program is focused on Exotic Shorthairs under the Akarana prefix in CFA and TICA. Our cats are DNA-tested PKD negative.
Our Exotic breeding program would not exist without the help, advice and support of Kathleen P. Holahan from Calivan cattery who shared her lines with us and provided us with our foundation exotic shorthairs.
Akarana Cattery is named for the Maori name of the city of Auckland, New Zealand.

NEWS UPDATE December 2010:
We will be moving to Portland, OR in May 2011. We have stopped breeding for the time being and will reduce our numbers to facilitate the move.
